Cyclone Yaas, coupled with a high tide, accounted for massive devastation in the villages of South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore and island communities. The river embankments overflowed in Mousuni island, Kultoli, Hingalganj, Khejuri, Geonkhali and several other areas. Mahiruha members recorded the first hand experience of the devastation and presented it in Mahiruha's facebook page. Later they decided to start community kitchen in some of the areas surveyed.
